"Down in the Doldrums?"

I grew up hearing the saying, "feeling down in the doldrums"...
which usually meant that a person, was listless, despondent, inactive, stagnant, in a slump.

They say you learn something new everyday.
Well, today, I learnt what the 'Doldrums' really are.

They are actually calm and light baffling winds that frequent
the intertropical convergence zone which encircles the earth just north of the equator...
where the winds from the northern and southern hemispheres come together.
The Doldrums—the region's light, shifting, and sometimes completely absent winds—are notorious for trapping sailing ships for days (or even weeks) without enough wind to power their sails.

So, after learning that the doldrums were actually something calming and tranquil,
it made perfect sense when a friend of mine decided to use the term to name her blog.
Her life is in a quieter, less hurried phase now, and she savours every new day.

If anyone was born to do a blog...it is Desi.
With her head so full of poetry and rich experience, from having lived a very full life.

Dear Desi, I hope you meet some lovely people in this strange and new Land of Blog.
I know I have.
