Noosa is Nice

We all went up to visit with John's mum at Noosa,
for the weekend.
John took the boat as well and we
caught some yabbies
before trying our hand at some fishing.
Didn't do any good on that score,
but we did have a lovely time together on the boat.
Ellie doesn't mind wearing the life jacket now.
John gave her some soft fish-like lures (without the hooks)
to play with.
She had a spendid time playing with her 'fish'.

"Tag and release"

A day's fishing last weekend wasn't hugely successful. This little reef fish was pretty, but too small to keep.
And this big eel was interesting...but not a keeper.

Neither was this big Puffer fish fit to keep.
But we had an enjoyable day on the water, inspite of the lack of a good catch, and a tad too much breeze. We came home with four fish that were legal size. (Bream and Tarwine)
AND, John didn't fall in the water.

A Fish Tale.

The day started out so well. The weather was not too hot. The sea was nice and calm. There were no crowds of people to contend with. Just the promise of a good day fishing. That was until we drifted too close to the bank and the mangroves. (I knew we should have anchored, and not just drifted!) My rod and line got caught in the branches and John had to manouver the boat close enough so that he could untangle my line.
As he leaned out to reach the line, he over balanced, and in slow-mo, he completely fell into and right under the water. He was soon out and back in the boat, dripping wet. Luckily, we had a some spare clothes, of sorts, for him to change into. Then we discovered that his glasses were no longer with us, and must have got lost in the water. So for the rest of the day, he had to wear my trackie daks and my glasses.
Above: Dripping wet, moments after climbing back on board the boat.
Anyway. Then the day got slightly (only slightly) better for John, as he proceeded to catch all the fish for the day. Only one of which was legal size to keep. A small Sole. I didn't catch a single fish.

The highlight of the catch was a beautiful Mulloway (Jew fish)...only to discover that it was actually undersized for that species. Damn it!!

So, it was reluctantly released back into the water after this photo was taken.

Sunset

Oh goody. It's almost 'dark time'! Time when the fish should be on the bite. John and I took the boat down to the seaway again on Wednesday afternoon. Pumped a enough yabbies at low tide. Then headed out to find ourselves a spot to fish.
So beautiful when the sun was going down, behind Wavebreak Island.

I do love this sort of fishing, so quiet and peaceful. No jetski noise or rowdy crowds of people. Just the anticipation of a good night of fishing.

Yep...and THIS is my first fish for the night!! What a snodger of a Bream! About 37cm long!
I followed that up with a few more good sized bream and a giant Whiting.
Mostly caught on a fast incoming tide.

John...not so lucky. He caught a few smallish sized fish, which he had to throw back. AND, he had to endure watching me catch all my beauties...THEN, had to clean ALL my fish.

A Fishing we will go!

More fish talk.
Just had to include a shot of the fish that John caught with Josh and his sister Bec, during their recent 'night fish' in the seaway.
The Australia Day weekend, saw us all staying with John's mum up in Noosa. As it was also her 81st birthday, we took her out for a special breakfast of Eggs Benidict in Hastings Street...where they know how to make a proper dish and coffee.

We also spent some time in the boat on the Noosa River. Not much luck with the fish this time, but we had a good time just playing on the water.

Awesome.

A Fish Tale

I love fishing at night! So peaceful and private. It's kinda like having the sea all to oneself, as you are not that aware of any other boats too near. Also you can't get sunburned. John and I went fishing with Jillian last weekend, and stayed out all night. Awesome! The sea was as calm as a mill pond, and the catch was a good one. We anchored in the seaway, down the Gold Coast, after first collecting enough yabbies for bait, on the sandbanks, and some small fish for live bait, with the net. Life really does not get much better than this!

As well as numerous whiting, bream and flathead...Jill caught a lovely sweet lip and I caught a mulloway (jew), both of which were the best tasting fish ever! John is an expert at filleting a fish, so there were no bones as usual, and our fish served us tea for the next three nights, cooked on the BBQ. We let Josh and Jill keep all the other fish. Josh has learnt how to properly fillet a fish, so there were no bones to bother them during their meals. Looking forward to the next' night fishing trip'!

'Boy Bling'

Apparently, there was a need to get the boat wet today, and try out some new and old lures. So John and I spent the day on Somerset Dam. Although the day turned quite hazy, it was mostly very nice.  John even tried his old 'Floppy' lure, until it got snagged. After retrieving it he then decided to stay with the newer lures. The old 'Foppy' is supposed to be very valuable, as the mold that was used to make them, no longer exists. Some on the interweb are selling for hundreds of dollars...apparently.

On the way home we called in at that huge antiques shop in Esk. It is so much fun to browse through, as they have a large collection of furniture and coloured glass.

After the hours spent enjoying the 'boy bling'...it was only fair that we spend fifteen minutes wandering through the many rooms of this surprising shop. Very nice...but dear as poison.
